Introduction to the Health Pass The nursing team has prepared a total of 8 workshops for the health coaches. These workshops aim to enhance their health knowledge and strengthen their communication skills with the elderly. This allows for their interactions with the elderly to take place in a harmonious and orderly manner.
1. Nutritional Pass
Objective: To educate seniors about the importance of balanced nutrition through the senior’s food pyramid and MyPlate. Additionally, teaching the “Three Low, One High” dietary approach and providing dietary recommendations for chronic diseases tailored to individual health needs.
Class activities: Understanding nutrition labels, healthy dining out and snacking, understanding the nutritional value of dishes in teahouses and local eateries; Healthy Ageing MasterChef competition for dish design.
Responsibilities of Health Aging Ambassadors: Sharing healthy recipes, providing tips for healthy cooking and nutritious shopping.
2. Exercise pass
Target audience: Elderly at risk of Sarcopenia and with Sarcopenia
Objective: Understand different types of exercises and their benefits, establish an exercise routine.
Class content: Exercise recommendation videos and demonstrations, exercise precautions and safety measures, introduction to the usage of community sports facilities.
Responsibilities of the Health Coach: Leading the exercise sessions, provide an overview of community sports facilities.
3. Fall prevention pass
Target audience: Seniors at risk of falling
Objective: To enhance the elderly’s lderlynding of aging-related changes, hazards of home fall, clothing and footwear considerations, and dietary guidelines. This aims to increase the awareness of the elderly of the causes and consequences of falls and improve their safety awareness in fall prevention. Additionally, teaching seniors balance exercises and physical activities to maintain joint flexibility and enhance muscle coordination.
Class activities: Balancing exercises for fall prevention, physical activities for overall fitness, chair exercises.
Responsibilities of the Health Coach: Leading the exercise sessions, sharing personal experiences to provide home fall prevention tips.
4. Emotional Wellbeing Pass
Target audience: Elderly individuals who is facing emotional distress.
Objective: To comprehend sources of stress, enhance stress resilience, improve mood, foster positive thinking, and prevent depressive emotions.
Class activities: Understanding stress relief and prevention methods, promoting healthy lifestyle habits and activities.
Responsibilities of Health Coach: Promoting and sharing healthy lifestyle habits and activities, leading relaxation techniques, and caring for the psychological well-being
5. Cognitive Wellness pass
Target audience: Elderly individuals who is experiencing cognitive decline.
Objective: To understand preventive measures against cognitive impairment and methods to improve memory.
Class activities: Learning practical tips in daily life to enhance memory, exploring brain-healthy dietary habits and exercises.
Responsibilities of Health Coach: Sharing and leading activities that delay cognitive decline.
6. Sweet Dreams Pass
Target audience: Elderly individuals suffering from insomnia or poor sleep quality.
Objective: To enhance understanding of the causes and effects of insomnia.Learn how to break the vicious cycle, and apply various relaxation methods such as diaphragmatic breathing, traditional Chinese dietary therapy, and acupressure massage to alleviate sleep issues and improve sleep quality in the elderly.
Class activities: Diaphragmatic breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation techniques, mindfulness meditation, guided imagery relaxation, insomnia dietary therapy, acupressure massage for insomnia, exploration of traditional Chinese dietary therapy, understanding stimulus control therapy and its application.
Responsibilities of Health Coach: Engaging in discussions on chronic insomnia cases, leading diaphragmatic breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation sessions, and sharing insights on insomnia management and dietary knowledge.
7. Pain Pass
Target audience: Elderly with chronic pain conditions
Objective: To alleviate pain, maintain mobility, preserve mental well-being, sustain social interactions, and improve overall quality of life for the elderly living with chronic pain.
Class content: Stretching and muscle strength exercises, acupressure massage of acupressure point, hot pad and cold pack therapy, dietary therapy, mindfulness meditation.
Responsibilities of the Health Coach: Leading exercise sessions, providing massage of acupressure point, facilitating mindfulness meditation.
8. Social Life Pass
Target audience: Elderly individuals living alone or experiencing a significant sense of loneliness.
Objective: To understand the social and psychological aspects of aging, comprehend the impact of social isolation, and provide tips for preventing loneliness.
